SQ – Sustainability Approach

Singapore Airlines sustainability strategy has provided a guiding framework to continually strive to fulfil a mission and vision of sustainability stewardship.

The four key thrusts are — Managing Environmental Impact; Safety; Stakeholder Engagement; and Supporting Our Communities.

Singapore Airlines recognise that sustainability risks and opportunities are continuously evolving.

Economy Class Meals for Short Haul Flights

In December 2020, Singapore Airlines launched a new Economy Class meal concept for all flights that are 3.5 hours or under*.
The meal features sustainable paperware that has been certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) and is accompanied with bamboo cutlery. Alongside replacing single use plastics, the paperware also weighs 50% less, which helps to lower the fuel consumption on flights.
While the food on your meal tray fuels you, what is left behind after your meal is turned into a different kind of fuel. Everything from the paper tableware to uneaten food scraps will be sent to an eco-digester at SATS in Singapore to be converted into reuse-derived fuel (RDF), a source of energy that can replace fossil fuel and coal; generating 60% less waste than before.

*Except for flights to Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Medan.
