Our history
More than four decades of continuous evolution
For more than 45 years, Reho has grown alongside our clients and the ever-changing world of travel. Our history is one of thinking differently, embracing change and continually evolving while staying true to the values that define us today.
From humble beginnings to unforgettable milestones, this short video celebrates more than 45 years of the people, places and moments that have shaped the Reho story.
Where it all began
Every business has a story. Ours began with a belief that travel should be more accessible and a willingness to challenge convention.
Reho’s roots trace back to Covent Garden in London during the 1970s, where the original concept was an overland bus service between London and India. Travellers would enjoy REstaurant meals and sleep in HOtel-style beds on board the bus, inspiring the name REHO. While the business evolved in a different direction, the entrepreneurial spirit behind that original concept remained. At a time when the industry accepted fixed prices and traditional practices, Reho pioneered a heavy discount model that questioned the status quo.
When that spirit arrived in Australia in the early 1980s, it came with the same determination to think differently. Advertising discounted airfares in interstate newspapers was considered controversial, but it reflected a philosophy that still defines us today: never be afraid to challenge the way things have always been done if it creates a better outcome for our clients.
Growing Together
We’ve never measured success by how many bookings we’ve made. We’ve measured it by the relationships we’ve built.
Over the years we’ve watched backpackers become business leaders, university travellers become procurement managers, and holidaymakers return with their children and, later, their grandchildren. Many of the people who first travelled with Reho decades ago are still travelling with us today.
As our clients’ needs evolved, so did we. We expanded into corporate travel, leisure travel and study tours, continually investing in new technology and new ways of supporting the people who trust us. Every step of our growth has been driven by one simple principle: listen to our clients and grow with them.
Never Standing Still
The travel industry has changed dramatically over the past four decades, and we’ve embraced every opportunity to evolve with it.
From pioneering new ways of selling travel in our early years to investing in technology that simplifies travel management today, innovation has always been about creating better experiences for our clients. We continually look for smarter ways to improve service, increase efficiency and deliver greater value.
While the tools we use have changed, our philosophy hasn’t. We believe innovation is only meaningful when it strengthens relationships, solves real problems and helps our clients travel with greater confidence. By continually challenging ourselves to think differently, we’re ensuring Reho remains ready for the opportunities and challenges of tomorrow.
Purpose Driven
As Reho continued to grow, so did our understanding of what success really means.
Becoming Australia’s first B Corp certified travel management company wasn’t about earning a certification. It was about recognising that the values we’d built the business on for decades, integrity, responsibility and putting people first, deserved to be embedded in every decision we make. It formalised a commitment that had always been part of who we are.
Today, that purpose continues to guide us. We strive to create positive outcomes not only for our clients, but also for our people, our communities and the environment, ensuring that every journey contributes to something bigger than travel itself.
Karsten Horne, CEO of Reho, shares how growing up on the small island of Sark shaped the values that continue to influence the way we do business today.
Looking Ahead
While much has changed since 1979, our commitment to our clients has remained constant. We continue to invest in our people, embrace new ideas and evolve with the changing world of travel.
As we look to the future, we’ll build on the foundations that have shaped Reho for more than four decades, always striving to deliver better outcomes for our clients, our people and our communities.
