Emirates signs interline deal with Virgin BlueEmirates and Virgin Blue have just announced a new interline agreement which will see a "seamless, single ticket option" for travellers flying from 13 Australian destinations to Emirates' network of 100 destinations in more than 60 countries. The deal also includes free transfers for guests transiting between the domestic and international terminals in Sydney, Brisbane and Perth as well as interlining of checked baggage through to the final Emirates destination. There's also reciprocity between the frequent flyer schemes of both carriers, allowing earning and redeeming of Velocity or Skywards points on flights of both carriers on a one-for-one point basis. "This agreement opens up a viable international travel alternative for those Australians residing in regional towns or cities where flight services are more limited, and we are confident the Virgin Blue/Emirates offering will prove hugely popular amongst business and leisure travellers alike," said Emirates Airline Vice President Australia, Stephen Pearse. The through fares will be available from Adelaide, Albury, Cairns, Canberra, Coffs Harbour, Gold Coast, Hobart, Launceston, Mackay, Mildura, Port Macquarie, Rockhampton and Townsville through all of EK's Australian gateway cities, Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney. The DJ/EK move follows the codeshare deal announced earlier this year between Etihad and Qantas which saw EY add its code to a number of QF domestic and trans-Tasman services. |
