My Langkawi Holiday

image.jsp_8.jpgI flew out from Sydney to Kuala Lumpur on the overnight flight leaving Sydney at 2220, this was good to get a full day of work in time to get home have a shower and leave for the airport, it also meant that by the time you were up in the air had your meal you were exhausted and were able to sleep. I'm not one to sleep on planes but I did it!! I slept the whole flight until the lights came on and breakfast was served at 230 in the morning...So didn't get to take advantage of their great entertainment system, which has movies on demand (recent and old good movies) 100's of different types of music and pages and pages of games.

We flew out on the old aircraft which had a seating configuration of 2 5 2 which for couples is great.....no one to climb over. The staff were great which gave a nice start to the holiday. Kuala Lumpur (KL) airport is very modern and also very quiet at 4am, we had a 3 hour lay over waiting for the connecting flight to Langkawi. The airport has a great little train that runs between the international and domestic terminal. Just a note of interest at that time of the morning immigration (at the domestic terminal) and the terminal itself isn't open so stay at the international until about 1.5 hours prior to your departure....there is a starbuck's etc there to keep you entertained.

Sheraton Pedana was the hotel of choice in Langkawi . It is a five star private hotel with a very secluded location among 104 acres of forest and tropical gardens, yet only 3 kilometres from the duty-free shopping centre of Kua (capital city). The hotel has spectacular views of the Andaman Sea and nearby islands of the Langkawi group. The resort has 500 meters of private beach, 3 swimming pools, watersports, spa facilities, there is no time for getting bored. At the moment the hotel is under going a major refurbishment, with one of the restaurants and pools closed however this did not effect us at all, there was no noise and still other ...Once the refurb is finished the resort is going to be out of this world, with overwater bungalows private jetty's. It's a great resort for conferencing, honeymoon/couples not a lot for kids but if your after a nice little beachy stop from KL 3 to 4 days is enough time to spend.

We did a couple of tours whilst in Langkowi, on the first day we hired a taxi for 3 hours to take us to the Seven Wells which is located on the north west side of Langkawi. Telaga Tujuh or "seven wells" is names because of its cascading water flows into the other creating seven pools. From the car park you will walk pass several tourist shops to get to the entrance, your first left hand turn leads you down a path to a gorgeous waterfall that forms at the end of the seven wells. If you turn back and continue up the steep 330 steps you will get to the seven wells waterfalls then up to the seven wells approx 45 minutes. Note to travellers * Remember to bring your swimsuits (we didn't) * Beware of the slippery algae on the rocks *Good walking shoes with good sole is recommended (thongs not the best!!) *Not recommended during the dry season where the water levels would be too low to be of any significance (exactly the time we went)

So it wasn't the best time to go and it was extremely hot and there was hardly and water which meant there wasn't to much to see however, it was nice and would look amazing after some rain. You're likely to see a lot of long-tailed macaque monkeys........

The following day we went out to Langkawi Coral, Palau Payar Marine Park. It is located 35km's south of Langkawi it is Malaysia's 1st & only reef platform in the marine park. You are transferred from your hotel to the Kuah jetty, you are required to check-in at least 30 minutes before departure. It takes approximately 1 hour by boat to get out to the reef platform. After a safety demonstration and reef activities commence (swimming and snorkelling from a submerged platform, rides in glass bottom boats, underwater observatory open for coral and fish viewing). Scuba is also available which must be booked on the boat trip out there.

Buffet lunch is included on board the reef platform with coffee and tea only, soft drink and water is at your own expense. All snorkel gear is included as well. In the afternoon before you return to the main land there is shark feeding from the beach. It was a great day out, its very similar to Reef World on the Great Barrier Reef, the coral isn't spectacular but the sea life was amazing you could hardly get into the water with how many fish were swimming around!!

Off to KL for 3 days of shopping!! I stayed at the Westin Kuala Lumpur, what can I say a truly lovely hotel in a good location....walking distance to lots of shopping centres and is one of the newest 5 star hotels in KL. All rooms have High Speed Internet Access at an additional charge, The heavenly Bed, Separate Bath and Shower and plenty of restaurants.

Whilst in KL I went to Sunway Lagoon it is separated into 3 major themed lands, each with rides and different attractions. There are great waterslides and wave pool that have surfing sessions daily...unfortunately it was closed when we were there for renovations but its now open!!

Attached to the themed park is a 5 star hotel, a shopping mall that has very modern facilities and even an ice skating rink. Its absolutely massive. Its approx 30-50 minutes from KL we just caught a taxi which cost us approx $25-$30.00 AUD each way.

A good day out, they are closed Tuesdays and it gets packed on the weekends obviously when people are not at work or school.

I really enjoyed my trip to KL and Langkowi the people are lovely and its just a nice place for some relaxation and time in a good city!
